Best wedding venues in Basel

-Wedding photography Switzerland-

Basel, with its blend of medieval charm and modern elegance, offers a stunning backdrop for weddings. Whether you're dreaming of a fairytale celebration in a historic castle or an intimate gathering in a contemporary space, here are some of my favourites wedding venues in Basel:

Villa Wenkenhof
Villa Wenkenhof feels like a secret garden tucked just outside the city. Set in Riehen, this historic villa is surrounded by lush green lawns and dreamy trees—like something straight out of a romantic film. It's peaceful, elegant, and wonderfully private.

Inside, you’ve got bright, airy rooms with big windows and parquet floors (hello, beautiful natural light!). Outside, the garden is perfect for ceremonies under the open sky and mingling during apero.

It’s ideal if you’re dreaming of a wedding that feels both timeless and intimate—with just enough grandeur to make it feel extra special, but without losing that warm, personal atmosphere.

Les Trois Rois
If you’re after timeless elegance, Les Trois Rois is the crème de la crème. It’s perched right on the Rhine and oozes that luxurious, old-world charm that never goes out of style. This isn’t just any hotel—it’s a grand old dame with serious history. From the ornate interiors to the riverside terrace, everything about it whispers romance.

And with its Michelin-starred restaurant and top-tier service, you know you’re in good hands. It’s a dream setting for a black-tie celebration—or for couples who want something that feels deeply elegant but still warm and welcoming.

Ostquai
This venue has such a vibe. Tucked away in Basel’s harbour area, Ostquai brings that effortlessly cool, industrial charm, it’s a dream space for wedding photos, especially when that golden light hits just right.

And the best part? You can arrive by boat from the city centre. (Yes—an actual boat. It’s that cool.) There’s plenty of room to make the space your own, whether you're going full-on dance party or cozy dinner vibe.

Ostquai works beautifully if you're planning a civil ceremony at the Zivilstandsamt and then want to head somewhere a bit more laid back and fun for your apero and evening celebration.

Villa Merian
Villa Merian feels like stepping into a quiet, romantic chapter of a storybook. Nestled inside the beautifully kept Merian Gardens, this pastel-colored villa offers the perfect blend of elegance and nature—it’s calm, it’s private, and it’s honestly one of my favorite hidden gems near Basel.

The surrounding gardens are absolutely stunning all year round—whether it’s spring blossoms, summer greens, or golden autumn leaves, the whole area is a photographer’s dream. You can have your ceremony under the trees, wander the winding paths for couple photos, then head inside the villa for an apero with your nearest and dearest.

Old Timer Tram
If you're leaning into a small city wedding and want to keep things fun and unique, the vintage Basel tram is such a gem. After your civil ceremony at the Zivilstandsamt, you can hop on a charming old tram and ride through the city in style—aperol in hand, smiles all around.

You can board at Schifflände or Kunstmuseum and take a loop through the city while sipping prosecco and soaking in the views. Pro tip? Don’t be late! Basel trams wait for no one, and every extra minute could cost you (and delay a whole transport system—eek!).

It’s a perfect way to spend that in-between time—just you, your guests, and the city rolling by outside. It’s intimate, practical, and an absolute dream for candid, joy-filled wedding photos.
